July 2011 Meet Re-Cap

Hello everyone,
 
What a great Meetup last Saturday and we lucked out with the weather again! We had over 50 Shibas with quite a few first timers and even an "honorary Shiba" – Rocky the Akita. Julie from Nanaimo (she came in by bike!) also attended her first Meetup and had a blast. Many of you may be familiar with her blog: The Misanthropic Shiba. When I was first researching the breed over 8 years ago, I found her blog and it was not only informative but hysterically funny. 
 

Shiba Rescue Calendars for 2012: I've already pre-sold 23 calendars and hope to place a few more orders before we head down to Oregon in August to pick them up. If you would like to purchase one, please contact me. 100% of the money will go to rescue! I will also be buying a very limited number of these calendars and selling them at future Meetups this year.

July 2011 Meet

Hello everyone,

The next Meetup will be Sunday, July 17th from 12-2pm at the David Gray dog park in Burnaby – McKay Avenue and Rumble Street. Parking is available on McKay Avenue, on either side of the street. There is an entrance to the dog park on McKay Avenue.  Directions

We will be fundraising for the BC SPCA's "Paws for a Cause" 2011 campaign at this Meetup. I'll have some dog treats for sale. I will not be organizing a team this year on behalf of Vancovuer Shiba but I encourage everyone to make even a small donation to help animals in need.

If anyone would like to take charge of organizing a team of Shibas for Paws for a Cause, I'd be more than happy to join. I just don't have the time to organize a team all on my own this year.

Many of you Meetup members participated in buying calendars last year to support  NW Shibas4Life – a Shiba rescue group serving Oregon, Washington and they have also been involved with rescue in BC. They are having their annual Shiba Picnic on August 6th and they will be selling their new calendar for 2012. We will be attending the picnic in Oregon (everyone is welcome to attend if you want to make the trek down) and we'll be picking up several calendars. If you would like to purchase one, please contact me. I will be collecting money for the calendars at this Meetup but other arrangements can be made prior to us leaving on August 5th. The calendars are $20 US but I will be collecting in Canadian funds as it's just easier that way and I'll make a lump sum payment for all the calendars using PayPal.

100% of the money goes to rescue!

I've included two images of the calendar (Below) – front and back. It has an American theme… but it's still a beautiful calendar LOL. There are even a few rescue Shibas from our Meetup group featured in the calendar for the months of January and October and there are cameos throughout the calendar of even more.

Doggy Tweetup (Not a Meetup)

Hi everyone,

A fellow Meetup member has asked me to pass this on to the group…. His friends are hosting a "Doggy Tweetup" at the David Gray dog park on Saturday May 21 from 11am-2pm. He would love to have some Shibas present at this event. For those of you who are interested, there will be prizes!!  **Please see the flyer below for more information**

Unfortunately, we will not be able to make the event as we'll be packing for our trip. But don't let that stop you from attending!
